Post subject:  Where will the FTSE 100 close on 31st Dec 2010?
I thought it might be a bit of fun to speculate where the FTSE 100 will close at the end of the year.

I've had e-mails from a spread betting company that are running a promotion based around the same question but I thought it might be fun to run the same question here. Unfortunately I'm not able to offer a prize to the winner. The only thing you will have is gloating rights.

So the question is "Where will the FTSE 100 close on 31st Dec 2010?". The site we will use for the price will be Yahoo Finance. I doubt any one will guess it on the nose so it will be the closest to the price over or under that will win.

How I said it's just a bit of fun. You only get one guess and your first guess will be your only guess. No editing your post the near to the date we get.

You can post as much or as little detail about your guess as you like.
I'm going to take a look at the chart now and will post my guess shortly.

The competition closes on the 29th of December. I think if we leave it any longer it will not be fair. Any entries posted after the 11:59pm on 29th December will not be counted.

I'm guessing 5965.

Here's why. I think we will break through the 6000 barrier possibly hitting around 6100ish before falling back down below 6000 to around 5965 then after this I think it will rise again. All that said this really is a guess. There isn't that much though gone into it from a techincal point of view. It's more of an observation of what seems to happen around the big round numbers.

I'll be interested to see what others think. Still you have nearly a week to add your guess.

Actually not true, because I did back my belief and had a short on the FTSE so made a good 50 points.

Yep the Winner is Offthelip. With the FTSE closing at 5899.94 Offthelips prediction of 5889 was a mighty fine effort. Well done and thanks to everyone for taking part. Hopefully at some point there will be a prize, but for now you will just have to accept my congratulations.

I was going to do a very brief blog entry today but with nothing much to report I don't think there is much point posting for the sake of it.

I was going to guess under the 6k mark but my wife always tells me not to be such a pessimistic sod!
Keep up the good work in 2011. Cant wait till April then I can top up my regular brokerage ISA account. All this spread bettings given me the trading bug big time!
